The Windows 7 Disk Management tool provides a simple interface for managing partitions and volumes. Here you can Shrink or create new partition the Hard Drive in a very simple way.
To open Disk Management tool there is a two way, one is open the Disk Management console by typing “diskmgmt.msc” in command prompt. And second one is to right click on My Computer and select Manage option.
A computer Management window will open.
Select disk Management which is under the Storage group.
Here you can see list of all available drives and partitions in your computer. Right click on the drive in which most free space is available and select Shrink Drive.
A new window should open in which the size of the drive before shrink will be mentioned and the available space to shrink will be mentioned , and in the next line you will be asked to enter the amount of space you want to shrink and this will be the size of the new partition.
After entering the values click on the option “ Shrink ” and wait for the process to complete.
Now we have created a new partition where we want to store our data however we are still not able to use this partition because we need to format it
Inside Disk Management you will now notice a new partition called ‘unallocated’. Right click on it and select New Simple Volume.
A wizard will open up. Go through the wizard and leave these values same and click Next.
Leave drive letter as it is and then click Next.
Now Format Partition option will comes. Here select the option “Format the volume with the following settings”. Also select file system NTFS or FAT 32, Volume Label and select the option “Perform quick format” if you want fast formatting. Last click Next.
Then conform your option and click Finish.
Now you will get your new partition available for store.
