But if someone predict about your hard disk’s fails, you may able to save your valuable data before it’s too late. Not all hard disk crashes suddenly and you may have time to backup your data.

In windows 7 & 8 you can manually check your Hard Disk health by using WMIC. In command prompt type “wmic” and hit Enter. Then type “diskdrive get status” and hit Enter. If you get message OK, then everything is fine otherwise hard disk may face issues to retrieving the SMART information.

Also you can check error using error checking tool. Right click the drive your want to inspect – Properties – Tools – Check now.

But now there are many programs which carefully monitor your hard drives’ health status and instantly warn you when there is any problem. Here are best free hard drive health monitoring and diagnostic programs.

Supports a part of external USB disks

Monitoring health status and temperature

Alert Mail

Graph of S.M.A.R.T. information

Control AAM/APM settings

This free system utility monitors the health and status of your drives and displays the information in a compact, easy-to-read interface. It can warn you if the temperature or the health of your drive is failing. It also tells you how many times the hard disk has been turned on and how many hours it's been on for.
