Your daily work is a multitasking and often you need some documents, folders or some application frequently. Then you have to open them again and again manually. But you can save time and effort by assigning a hotkey to quickly accessing them.
Windows operating system allows users to create custom keyboard shortcuts to applications, file or folder. You can assign your own custom hotkey so that it can be opened with a minimum of effort.
How to assign a hotkey to an application in Windows 7:
Open the Start menu
Type the program in search bar for which you want to set hotkey.
Right-click the on program and select “Properties”.
In the Properties dialog, you can find the text box labeled “Shortcut key”
In this text box just press the key you want to set as a hotkey. Windows will automatically place “Ctrl + Alt +” in front it. If you select a function key or a numeric keypad key, only that key will be used and “Ctrl + Alt +” will not be added.
Finally click "OK".
How to assign a hotkey to a folder or file:
Right click on the file or folder you want to set hotkey for.
Select “Create shortcut” option.
Now you can see a shortcut will created of this file or folder in the same location.
Right click on the shortcut and select “Properties” option.
Type the key which you want to assign as a hotkey and then press Ok.
