Microsoft started next generation of Windows by releasing its most awaiting Windows 10 and it is available to upgrade for free. Windows 10 includes several eye-catching new features, cool design and lot of improvements over the previous versions of Windows.

Start Menu: It's BACK!
In Windows 10 you will see the return of the Start menu with new surprises. It combines the application list like Windows 7 and it brings resizable live tiles features from the Windows 8.1. Here you can add, delete, resize and rename the tiles, change their colour, group apps together. Also you can change the colour of the start menu. It the best start menu compared to the previous versions and it is much more customizable.

Cortana is your clever new personal assistant. Cortana will help you find things on your PC, manage your calendar, track packages, find files, chat with you, and tell jokes. The more you use Cortana, the more personalized your experience will be.
To get started, type a question or query in the search box on the taskbar. Or select the microphone icon and talk to Cortana.
One of the things Cortana can do for you is to give you reminders. For example, type or say, "Remind me to call Alex at 2 PM." Make the meeting recurring if you want to. The reminder will appear at 2 PM, along with any info you’ve added to it.
To Enable Hay Cortana-
- To activate "Hey, Cortana," first you have sing in using your outlook email account in cortana.
- Then click in the search box located in the Taskbar.
- When the Search window comes up, click on the Notebook icon on the left side of the window.
- Next, click on the Settings icon.
- Here you will find a button to enable Hey Cortana.

Task View Button:
Windows 10 brings a lot of great features to the PC, and Task View is one of them. Task View button is on the right side of Cortane on Taskbar. Clicking the Task View button on the taskbar or swiping from the left side of the screen displays all open windows and allows users to switch between them, or switch between multiple workspaces.
Task View also lets you group apps in multiple desktops to increase your productivity. You can create a new blank desktop by clicking + New Desktop which is lower right side of the Task View screen. On one desktop you can open programs currently your are working and on second desktop you can open your personal work like social activity, email ect. Then you can easily switch from work screen to personal activity screen easily.
In Task View interface, when you move your mouse over a desktop, it display all open program in large thumbnails in that desktop. It’s also possible to move one application from one desktop to another by simply dragging or right-click on the large thumbnail for the program you want to move, select “Move to,” and then select the desktop number to which you want to move the program.
Keyboard shortcuts in Virtual Desktop-
- Windows key +Tab – To open Task View
- Win +CTRL+left/right – To cycle through virtual desktops
- Win + Ctrl + D - To create a new virtual desktop
- Win + Ctrl + F4 - To close the current desktop you are on.
Improved Command prompt:
In Windows 10, Command Prompt comes with lots of new features and improvements.
Improved keyboard editing and selection-
Selecting text with the keyboard is a really common operation. Now you can use familiar Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V keyboard shortcuts to copy and paste the text and CTRL+F to open Find dialog box.
- Ctrl + A – Select all text in the current line.
- Ctrl+C (or Ctrl+Insert) - Copy the selected text
- Ctrl+V (or Shift+Insert) - Paste the selected text
- Ctrl + Shift + Left / Right – Moves the cursor one word to the left or right.
- Shift + Home / End – Moves the cursor to the beginning or end of the current line.
In Mark mode, you can select text in block mode. It enables to select as we select in other notepad like applications.

Unlike in previous version, in Windows 10, when you resize Command Prompt window, it automatically wraps the text to fit the width of window.
Full Screen Mode-
If you want commant prompt in full screen, just press Alt+Enter key and exit from full screen mode press the same key.
Now you can change the color of command prompt as you like and also make its window transparent. Also you can adjust its transparency level from 30% to 100%. Right-click on Command Prompt window titlebar and select Properties , then Colors tab.
CTRL + SHIFT + Plus (+) Increase transparency.
CTRL + SHIFT + Minus (-) Decrease transparency.
The Edge Browser:
Microsoft’s replace its old web browser Internet Explorer with new Edge browser. Edge browser gives you a fast and modern way to surf the web. It is integrated with Cortana, reading mode, Share button and Hub.
No need to go to a website to search for pictures of adorable penguins. Stay put and save time by entering your search in the handy address bar. You’ll get search suggestions, instant results from the web, and your browsing history right on the spot.
If you do need to open a web page with Internet Explorer, you can just tap the menu button and select Open with Internet Explorer.
You can browse the store on your PC, tablet, or phone and easily download great free and paid digital content including apps, games, music, movies, and TV shows. The Store has tons of app for you to stay in touch and get things done, plus more games and entertainment than ever before and many free!
To find the Store, go to Start, and then select Store or select it from the taskbar.
Windows 10 is come with the Xbox app which brings together your friends, games, and accomplishments across Xbox One and Windows 10 devices. On Xbox app game pages you will learn about upcoming game updates, check out featured game clips and trailers.

A new look for settings:
Get to Settings by going to Start > Settings . From there, browse the categories or use search to find what you're looking for, including advanced options in Control Panel. Here you can personalize your lock screen, choose from a default theme, change desktop background and colors
Use your PC like a tablet:
Tablet mode makes Windows easier and more intuitive to use with touch on devices like 2-in-1s, or when you don't want to use a keyboard and mouse. To turn on tablet mode, select action center on the taskbar and then select Tablet mode.
Make your PC easier to use:
Setting up your PC to make it more accessible takes only a few steps. Most Ease of Access options are available in Settings. Go to Start and select Settings > Ease of Access. From Ease of Access you can set Magnifier, contract, keyboard, mouse and other option.
Action center is where to find your app notifications, as well as quick actions, which give you quick access to commonly used settings and apps. To open Action Center, click the Notification icon, which is right side of the task bar or press Win + A key.
You can customize which apps notify you in Action Center window. To customize Action Center Notification Go to --> Settings--> System > Notifications & actions.
Mail and Calendar:
The Mail and Calendar help you stay up-to-date on your email, manage your schedule, and stay in touch with people you care about the most. This help you communicate quickly and focus on what’s important across all your accounts. It supports Office 365, Exchange, Outlook.com, Gmail, Yahoo! and other popular accounts.
Get your work done faster with Quick access:
In Windows 10 by default, File Explorer opens as a Quick Access folder. Here you will see frequent folders, recent files. Use quick access will save minutes every day re-accessing documents and downloads, or saving precious seconds you used to spend drilling into the same folder over and over again.
You can pin any folder in Quick Access by Right-click the file, and then click Pin to Quick Access or drag and drop this folder to the Quick Access folder.
