Create Shut Down and Restart buttons in Windows 8

Some people feel it very hard to shut down and restart in Windows 8. But here is the old simple method to create Shut Down and Restart buttons.


  1. Go to Desktop and Right click anywhere in empty area.
  2. Select New – Shortcut.
  3. Now put the following code below Type the location of the item: as - shutdown /s /t 0

  1. Click Next.
  2. Type a name for this shortcut : Shutdown.
  3. Click Finish button.
  4. Your shutdown shortcut will appear on desktop.
  5. Now right click this icon – Properties – Change Icon.
  6. And select here proper picture for Shutdown.
  7. With the same method you can create Restart button by typing code - shutdown /g /t 0
  8. After creating both icons put them in Application Windows by copy and paste in following location -%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Application Shortcuts\

Also you can pin these to Task bar.
